-Good salary for the work done. -Nice offices and sites across England. Opportunity to work flexibly. -Currently very junior employees can get lots of good CV experience very quickly indeed. No limits on job role or age for you to lead projects.
Cons
I am in complete agreement with the "Smoke and Mirrors" review, so I will try not replicate those points again here. I would only add that there does not appear to be much research getting done at this Research & Technology Organisation. At best the MTC is acting as a consultancy company for industry customers that have run out of internal resources to solve their problems, at worst it is a money pit that has learnt how to wield a buzzword to receive funding. MTC is categorically not a bridge between academia and industry, though it claims to be in marketing material. Industry projects are shorter, pay more and require less knowledge - so these are favoured. This last point has been stated by a director quite openly in a business-wide meeting.
