Pros

When I first started, we were straight commission, and made great money. You used your own gas and your own vehicle but we’re paid very well. They changed pay plans and gave us a company car and a small salary plus “bonuses” it was a massive cut.

Cons

Management couldn’t care less about you. You’re not judged by what you have done or achieved. It is “what have you done for me this month.” Go from making $110k+/yr on commission with the flexibility of setting your own schedule and no expectations of work if you aren’t on the appointment schedule. They changed the plan to $40k/yr plus bonuses and you get a company car. They promise promotions but find any excuse to not bump you up. Including the birth of my child which made me miss 3 weeks of January making me short on my “goals” which made them put me on a “coaching plan” which meant no promotion I sold more than I did when I made the 110k/yr on commission and only made 75k after bonuses on the new plan. While being expected to be in the store or in appointments for 55+hrs a week. When the leads dried up, you were expected to “self -gen” your own leads and if you fell short, you attend a punitive meeting at 7am an hour away to “learn how to self gen”. They took a great program and job and ruined it.

Pros

The Home Depot has a solid moral compass. They aren't about sacrificing their ethics for the sake of a sale, which I love. They also hire a diverse group of people and give a lot back to the community. They offer a lot of benefits and little treats for their employees. Although they push their associates to meet quota, they're realistic about what can and can't be accomplished.

Cons

Home Depot has two different sides to it. Store associates and those of us considered "store support" who are payed by the vendors but work in the stores 100% of the time. I constantly hear about how store associates are stressed out by management and their hours are being rearranged a lot, cut, and they often are stretched thin due to lack of full staffing. "Store support" associates who do merchandising have it better than those who work in specific departments. However, you never really gain knowledge unless you have the time to look things up and read packaging.
