A Company That Treats You Like an Adult (:O) - Senior Software Consultant Test Double Employee Review

Pros

The level of autonomy we have as individual consultants within the company is unbelievable. We work with and for a long list of very interesting clients, and it's almost a guarantee that no matter how weird your problem, someone else has seen it and is willing to work with you in whatever way you need to help you out. I can't say enough about how supportive and responsive leadership is, either. Oh, did I mention that the company has been remote since the beginning? No such thing as RTO if there's no O to R to ;)

Cons

Consulting can be lonely! Being the only "outsider" on a large team at a client is tough—but the team at Test Double is right there, and like I said, they've seen it all.

Pros

Test Double is full of thoughtful, professional software engineers & consultants and is a wonderful place to work and to grow. The company actively encourages personal development with 10% time and generous education/conference reimbursements. Leadership across all parts of the company is thoughtful and intentional in how things are communicated both internally and externally. There are a wide range of technical and less-technical challenges to solve across the client base, and the team doesn't shy away from staffing unique & exploratory engagements rather than allowing Test Double to become a "one-trick pony". Test Double also exemplifies remote culture: there has never been a central office, distributed employees have access to a wealth of online social engagements, and overall the org has really nailed what it means to work together effectively from anywhere.

Cons

The company's rapid growth over the last two years has created some gaps. The largest is that the progression system for consultants is in constant flux so it's difficult to seek a promotion or change in role, though regular salary review & advancement is still observed for everyone. Recent investments have been mostly focused on organizational support rather than feeding back into consulting teams. There has been significant tooling thrash as leadership & management struggle to find platforms that fit the unique processes they workshop. All of these feel like regular growing pains, but at an organization as unique as Test Double, they have a magnified effect. I expect this friction to pass eventually - the only way out is through.
