Pros

Tergar is committed to cultivating well-being and promoting human flourishing through meditation. My colleagues share this wish to bring comfort to the world and end suffering. It's very satisfying to work with people who share this lofty goal. Hearing back from the people we help through our programs and courses really makes me feel like the work I am doing makes a difference in the world. It is very gratifying work. We are encouraged to take time not just for vacation, but for personal retreat, and Tergar has a very generous policy for time off.

Cons

The team structure can sometimes lead to silos within the organization, and the work itself can be very demanding, especially at certain times of the year. Salaries are generally not as high as in the corporate world, but job satisfaction is much higher, in my personal experience.

Pros

Real world impact. It's so heartening to really be changing people's lives for the better. It's a very diverse group, with staff from around the world working together, and serving meditators from all over the globe. It's also a very creative, innovative team, so there's always lots happening and very exciting new directions.

Cons

Working remotely is great, but can also be challenging, especially when navigating the many time zones of the Tergar staff.

Pros

Nice staff, freedom to work remotely.

Cons

Leadership is terrible - a hive of self-protectionism and blinkered denial of duties. A great many contractors were brought on and fired, or quit as a result of non-existent leadership and project management. Surviving on a projected set of Buddhist values the good will of workers, all teams are over-stretched and constantly exhausted, with back-biting, and bizarre bitchiness. Complaints of racism (made by outsourced contract workers were ignored by leadership. A culture of overtly generous retreat time is projected, but in reality everyone is expected, or forced to work way over contracted hours as a result of poorly set targets.
