Pros
- Small office of less than 30 employees some of whom work remotely or in another building - The CEO is energetic and still very involved in the day-to-day operations. You will have direct access to him and be able to observe a successful entrepreneur. - Great north Old Town Alexandria location near many restaurants, grocery stores, and gyms. There is a children's park across the street and a park along the water about 3 blocks away. The Braddock Road metro is a 15-20 minute walk and there is a bus stop right on the corner. - Depending on the position, working from home is an option - Competitive salary for some positions - Receive all stock market holidays off - Many employees have been with the firm for a very long time
Cons
- With the small office comes a lot of gossip which you can't always avoid - Micromanagement from the CEO trickles down on all positions causing some employees frustration - Little to no opportunities for advancement or even lateral career moves - No cost of living adjustments. No continued education or training. No tuition reimbursement. No standardized or consistent performance reviews. No 401 K matching. Infrequent raises. - There is free street parking but you will have to move your car every 2 hours and sometimes spots are limited. Employees can also choose to pay for Garage or Surface Lot parking. - Insurance benefits are extremely expensive as the company only picks up 25% leaving you with very high premiums. - This is not a posh place to work. There is a kitchen with a fridge, coffee pot, and microwave but you will need to buy your own cups, plates, cutlery, etc. There is also no filtered water. While the building itself is quite nice, the Telemet office looks like a college kid has thrown together a bunch of stuff from a yard sale. No matching chairs in the conference room for example. If perks are something that is important to you Telemet is not the place for work.
