Pros

Remote work from anywhere. You're supplied with a work laptop. Most who are still there are aligned on the company mission and genuinely care about educational outcomes in computer science.

Cons

Processes are outdated or non-existent. The CEO changes the direction of the product on a whim, based on hot buzz words he's heard recently. There's very little room in that model to improve or fix existing issues. Morale is fairly low. Employees have been fired for nonsense reasons, but aren't replaced by new hires. Those still at the company have new responsibilities piled on when this happens, but little to now training to prepare. Benefits are also fairly weak.

Pros

The people at TechSmart are amazing, and they have created one of the best workplace cultures I've ever had to pleasure to experience. I genuinely look forward to coming to work. Also, TechSmart is a great place for people who are earlier in their careers to work at. Lots of challenging yet solvable problems to cut your teeth on.

Cons

TechSmart is a mission-driven startup that serves the US public education system. While the company is profitable year-over-year and hasn't laid anyone off since I've been there, the pay will likely never come close more established companies or companies in more lucrative industries.

Pros

Small company where the majority of people are very kind. You get to work remote and they will supply a laptop and any other requirements for the role

Cons

There is a lot of shuffling. Someone who worked there for a long time had their position changed three times in a little more than a year and then fired. A whole team was laid off before they had a system in place to replace them. I was fired for a "skill issue" after about three years but never told what the issue was. The raises are also once a year and not congruent with inflation. The communication between teams is lacking.
