Pros

Management learned from its past leadership sins, which consist of hiring and empowering tech leaders who do not fully comprehend product specs and inadequately commit to ambitious roadmaps. With a relatively new CPO, many org changes have already been made in terms of dividing the org among its main product lines, and working with stable teams to finalize estimations. Already, this is uniting the faith throughout the organization so that product marketing can appropriately liaise with product management. In turn, the organization's field team will be effectively empowered. Aside from the inner workings of the organization, another great boon is that there is a strong customer commitment throughout the organization. Many individuals have solid experience in ed tech, and care deeply about providing strong customer service via effective professional development in schools and districts. During all product releases and updates, all customer facing teams are updated about the latest developments and all major product decisions were made in direct partnership with schools and districts. Finally, the products have very solid content, which continuously receive rave reviews from customers. The organization has done a great job of establishing itself as a leader with strong, original product content.

Cons

There has been a fair amount of internal turnover, particularly in the technology department, which makes it very challenging to onboard new employees. There is a pretty high learning curve when it comes to mastering the software and understanding its many nuances. This stems from a complicated technological architecture. The flip side is that there are plans to streamline the architecture and empower the different tech leads with the keys to create a unified platform / cross-product experience. Lots of org changes can be jarring. Would be great to have an org chart and to stick to it for a fixed period of time. Yes, firefighting is necessary, but it shouldn't be the norm. Different divisions may not have good ideas about what other divisions are doing. The org should come up with better methods of knowledge sharing.
