Pros

There are *always* openings, not necessarily for long-term but for shorter stints if that's what you choose. But non long-term pays less. The rate also depends on which district you sub in. They do have training in the form of lectures and webinars, which are usually pretty good. This also gives you a chance to interact with peer subs. I really love long-term because you get to know teachers and students and because there is no hassle with teachers meetings, grading papers, report cards, etc.

Cons

The job itself can be rough, but that's the nature of subbing. You have to be committed to the mission and have thick skin. You can be canceled out of a job two hours before start and the notification of cancelation does not always work.

Pros

The hours, the flexibility, and the ability to have vacations when my kids did.

Cons

There was sometimes confusion about who to report to. Building subs was a new position when I started, so they were still working things out. It has gotten much better

Pros

Easy to pick up sub opportunities. If you make the best of building relationships with teachers and administration it is a great opportunity to network and find a long term role.

Cons

Pay is not that great.
