Pros

- Good pay and benefits, especially for new college grads - Good training program for entry level managers - Various leadership opportunities like LEAD Academy - Team-oriented environment - Lead by walking by around – not stuck behind a desk - Personal and professional development is a key focus area and is talked about often - Get great experience with behavior-based coaching conversations - Good job security as Target is a stable and profitable company - There is a sound methodology behind your performance review (not Best Team Survey)

Cons

- Very high turnover rate at all levels of management, including the GM - Company expanded prematurely into Canada and is now clamping down on costs - Company does not value its people like before and wants long tenured GLs out - Bizarre culture where people are not authentic and have hidden agendas - Inflexible hours. It's not a place where you can come into work early and then leave early - No sense of accomplishment – repetitive, monotonous and meaningless work - Weaknesses or “opportunities” are focused on instead of your strengths - Little chance for promotion among the nearly 40 GLs in the building - Even GLs who have relocated to other DCs still have not gotten promoted after years - There is a “Target Mold” that Target looks for and if you do not fit that mold, your potential for advancement is slim to none - Target values style over substance - Wrong people get put into roles they do not deserve, no communication on those who are put into certain roles or why - Too many commitments to keep track of, resulting in a lack of follow-thru and basic execution - Must deal with some Team Members who are disrespectful because they wish they had gone to college, but never did and are now frustrated with their position in life - Lack of accountability from senior leadership - Environment of peers managing each other while senior leadership watches - Culture of second hand feedback instead of people having courage to say it directly to you - Unnecessary amounts of admin. work that either HR should do or should be phased out in order to allow GLs more time on the floor with their teams - Lack of commonsense from HR when placing new Team Members into a certain department - More awards and recognition goes to those who get more face time with senior leadership - If you work on the weekends, senior leadership does not notice nor care about what you have achieved - Those who work on off-days is viewed positively; productivity is championed at the cost of morale and work/life balance - Working strange hours sometimes on weekends, holidays, or both - Shift hours are misleading -- a 12 hour shift is really a 14-15 hour one as you must get there 2 hours early and sometimes stay after - Temp workers have been brought in who are difficult to coach - You are on your feet for the better part of 14-15 hours and this will wear on your joints over time
