Pros
Great co-workers, good benefits, retirement, TSP, and working with the traveling public was a great experience.
Cons
Based on the attrition rates in recent years, one would conclude that management does not want employees to stay with TSA for the long term. Approximately 2 employees quit per month (24-25) people a year. When people are working 2-3 times as hard as they used to work because of constant short-handedness, compounded with excessive drama at TSA, it becomes extremely easy for people to burn out. I have witnessed employees expecting to retire from the federal government getting fired at the last minute. They were cheated out of retirement benefits. One person committed suicide because of this in 2011. It was horrible. Nepotism runs rampant in the promotion process. I have seen people promoted to supervisory and headquarter positions without even going through the interview process. Superiors and subordinates are often married couples and relatives. In other federal agencies, this is highly taboo. The TOPS performance and review system is highly subjective and biased. Hard-working employees are often not rewarded for their efforts if they're not friends with management. Management and supervision has a track record of being unprofessional in their dealings with employees. When all things are considered, nothing has changed for the better during the course of the last 10 years.
