Pros
There are no real pros to working here. Many of the 5-star reviews you see are misleading — internal communications have encouraged staff to post positive reviews in order to attract temporary Christmas workers, most of whom will be let go on Christmas Eve.
Cons
Where do I even begin? I was let go immediately after completing my apprenticeship at THG. Unfortunately, this seems to be a pattern — the company often can’t afford to keep staff on after their probation or apprenticeship ends. There have been significant job losses across the customer service departments. It’s a common practice at THG to hire large numbers of staff temporarily for the Black Friday and Christmas rush, only to let most of them go right before or even on Christmas Eve. This has been openly discussed in team meetings. Apprentices, in particular, are often not kept on after completing their programs because their wages are government-funded during training — once that funding ends, there’s no budget to retain them. On top of that, payroll issues are frequent. Last year, we were told we'd be paid after Christmas due to insufficient funds in the company bank account. With Black Friday approaching, it’s likely to be more chaos. I strongly advise thinking twice before accepting a role here. It’s a toxic environment. A quick look at how many times they’ve faced legal action says it all.
