Pros
Some projects are interesting and there was a good work/life balance.
Cons
1. There is absolutely no possibility for growth within the company. Working there for years I got a meager raise only once. I was told by the one owner "Don't expect another raise ever. This is the only one you will get." Huge red flag. 2. You will be required to take on tasks you are not adequately compensated for or even knowledgeable on. If you are in the editorial department, you will have to do design work, which is not a part of your job description. I knew a proofreader that within her first week, she was asked to do extensive content editing. She went to the editorial owner and complained and she was let go shortly after. 3. The one owner plays favorites and gives certain projects and benefits to whoever she likes. 4. Employees are underappreciated and never get credit for their hard work. 5. It was a very toxic environment. Since it was so small, there was catty behavior. 6. The company was basically a revolving door with people constantly leaving. Few people stayed for long. There was always a rush of hiring certain months of the year and then they would all be let go not long after. 7. There is an extreme lack of empathy and respect. One of my former coworkers who was incredible at her job, was let go via phone call while she was on her way to the office. No two weeks notice let alone even a day's notice. It's extremely disheartening when an owner does not even care enough to be respectful and tell workers in advance when they are being let go.
