Pros

You will learn how to handle situations despite being given very little information or training. You might even be like me, and magically become psychic or clairvoyant after getting hired because I had a feeling I was going to be fired from the very beginning and sure enough, the department I was moved into was restructured and my position was eliminated after a year of working in it and training a new hire.

Cons

There is not enough space in this text box to describe the absolutely abhorrent, disorganized, turbulent, hands off, management team. There is also not enough room here to describe the lack of instruction, resources, and opportunity to grow within this company. If you are not a partner, Jewish, or within the management team (even that's a stretch) you are not safe or secure in your position even if they tell you you will not be at risk of losing your job if they hire someone new. Last piece, if they hire someone new within your department, keep your resume up to date, and send it out to as many companies as you can immediately. They are notorious for hiring new people, and then firing the person who is training them for their position, leaving the new hire in the same position the person who was fired was likely in when they were brought on.

Pros

Swiss Madison is the first company I've been hired at focused on the employee experience. I started in the order processing department and learned many aspects of different processes at my own pace. There is more emphasis on learning how to perform tasks correctly than on how quickly you can learn to do something. The tools and resources provided to employees for training are very easy to understand and utilize, and management is consistently patient when answering questions or providing explanations on items needing deeper clarification. The work environment is excellent for people who know how to effectively manage their time and prioritize tasks based on level of importance. Everyone respects tasks already in progress, and the culture is centered around being considerate of time, personal bandwidth, and the ability to have more than one project handled at a time.

Cons

The frequency of employee reviews conducted by department-specific management could be improved. HR is always open and available for whoever may need to speak with them. Still, there are times when people on a department management level are needed to go over department specifics. Managers tend to be involved in many different projects at a time, leaving little room to go over employee performance whether it's positive or negative.

Pros

In a company that is growing and in start up mode, you usually experience the following: 1. lots of plans not being fulfilled 2. Unmanageable workloads on a few people 3. meetings, meetings, meetings......and more meetings 4. Very little facetime with leadership in an open opinions environment. 5. Not being able to make your own path, and utilize an entrepreneurial spirit This is my experience currently at Swiss Madison: 1. I am able to plan out days/weeks/months and meet deadlines with assistance from my counterparts. 2. My workload is very manageable and at times I am able to work on passion projects that involve multiple stake holders at the company. Which helps keep me motivated for the daily workload. 3. I do not feel bogged down by endless meetings that end up with no action plans. Each meeting which is 2-3 per week, has an objective and has clear intention. 4. Although I work alongside with the owners of the company, I never feel like my opinion doesn't matter, and they treat me as though I am also a stake holder in the company. 5. Every day I feel like I am running my own mini company within the company. I am able to make autonomous decisions, while providing my team with tools to remove daily barriers.

Cons

How could someone possibly complain about having too many holidays? As a Jewish owned company we have 14 holidays in 2023 and 18 in 2024. Are they all in the summer?,,,,,well no of course not. But if you are good at planning your PTO this makes for some long vacations. I would say my biggest "Con" would be the parking situation. But there is always parking in the lot, but the parking is far from the building.
