Pros
I took a seasonal job in retail sales that turned into over a year because we just had a great time. A lot of retail sales work is dull. Endlessly changing displays, promotions, seasonal decor, putting out shipments and the like is not exactly mentally stimulating, but I loved this job because everyone who worked there and shopped there really loved to cook so we had a lot in common and were always getting excited about new products and recipes. I was also impressed at the number of well educated sales staff and mangers the store was able to employ. Most of the staff had college degrees and loved the products, company culture, and discounts (the best employee discount program I'm ever come across). It's not rocket science, but it was a fun place to work for a while and for retail the pay is pretty good. I think I started at 9/hr and ended at 12/hr I was always impressed by the training and availability of in store management and corporate trainers alike. This company promotes from within too, so there's room to move up.
Cons
Retail is kinda boring and doesn't pay that well. Your feet will hurt at the end of a shift.
