Pros
Though they are all "Onsite Specialist" positions, they vary based on hospital contract. Ask lots of questions in your interview regarding the dynamics at the account. You will want to know case load, team or single specialist account, and if there is SPD expectations. I am a single specialist in-room only contract and I have THE BEST job. Tons of exposure in the OR, I work directly with the surgeons and staff, and have great working relationships with both. I have lots of exposure with the local sales reps and have had multiple opportunities to sell new products.
Cons
This position is designed to help you "break into the field," and you can be taken advantage of because of it. Stand your ground, know what you're worth, and you will be just fine. If you've never worked in the OR before, you need to have a personality that will not allow people to walk all over you, or you will drown and be miserable. This job is what you make it but it's your job to ask the correct questions and know what you are getting into.
