Pros

My clients were some of the most amazing people I ever met and they changed my life. I loved the freedom to go out and help them reach their goals. You get reimbursed for gas mileage and costs on whatever day activities you do like apple picking.

Cons

I didn’t know that you didn’t need a “care manager”. When I was hired I got in through a friend who knew a care manager who matches you with families they think you are good fits for. You have the option to find your own families through their system. The care manager I worked for told me if I took any jobs without her knowing “I would be sorry” in part because possibly something bad would happen to me because the family was hiding something or because she would make it hard for me. I reported it to my supervisor who said she wanted to have a meeting with all 3 of us and of course the care manager denied this. Overall I was greatly underprepared with only 2 week training from power points to have clients with needs very much beyond me and my skill level. I was passionate about the job and clients so I hung in there but I burnt out very quickly when I ended up working basically 6 days a week with 7 high need clients. Their plant form takes a while to learn and is very buggy. Lots of time wasted with IT. Parents and families could be challenging and demanding, I was yelled at and felt threatened even when I refused to be responsible for administering a medical service I wasn’t certified for and would get in trouble according to company guidelines.
