Pros
Good and supportive colleagues. Counselors are your best friend to support you.
Cons
Not a friendly school for probationary teachers. Admin is not very understanding or supportive when situations arise between teachers and students because it felt like teachers are to blame for the incidents occurring. Admin takes complaints way too seriously and uses that for determining renewal/tenure. The one time I had a mental shutdown, admin kept asking "why" versus taking the time to care about the mental health of the teachers first. While I appreciate the advice they gave, it feels discouraging to talk to them again after that incident put a bad taste in my mouth. I will also mention that there is a lack of communication and muddy expectations between staff/students and admin/mentors.
Students complain/argue all the time and like to get counselors and admin involved way too much. Grading, for example, is one of them. Also, dare to have them take a test earlier than other teachers, and expect to get arguments even though you've explained the situation to them already. Students are super disrespectful and are on phones, throwing things, and yelling across the room.
