Good company, but experience varies by franchise - Stylist Sport Clips Employee Review

Pros

Base pay at most locations is $10/hr, which is (sadly) above average for most chain salons. Uniforms are very comfortable - you get to wear track suits, jerseys, and sneakers to work! Environment is generally pretty laid back - no chemical services, and a chill all-male clientele

Cons

Technical training is not frequent enough to be terribly useful and the techniques taught often make no sense for use on real clients. Stylists must follow an extremely detailed procedure for each cut (called the "5 point play") that basically takes all thought and personality out of the job. It is generally ignored, but if it is not followed to a "T" when QA shows up, the owner is fined and there will be hell to pay! Franchise owners often have no salon experience and therefore don't really understand the business. They are often fairly absent in daily business, which in my experience led to a lot of unprofessional behavior and incompetent managers allowed to do whatever they felt like doing.

Pros

Pay, schedule flexibility, growth opportunities, company events, benefits

Cons

The pay is excellent as long as you’re performance is strong and especially if your flexible with your schedule and full time. But if you’re not a good performer or super part time, this might not be the best place for you.

Pros

Flexible schedule and decent pay.

Cons

Team leader claimed to care about his team, but only cared about a few! Team leader cared more about employees, causing problems than the employees doing their job! Team leader got teary-eyed when an employee needed to be let go for being aggressive with another stylist! Team leader refused to pay out vacation time to an employee who quit, stating that it wasn’t policy and had never done before, employee who quit showed proof that it had been done before and team leader still refused to pay out vacation. Very few policy and procedures are followed per Sport Clips handbook, 100% would not recommend working for Sport Clips, especially at this location. Well hourly pay is decent, bonus on any level is nearly impossible, especially as a manager! As a stylist, you have to hit all three metrics to bonus at all, and as a manager, you yourself have to hit all the metrics, and you have to have at least one stylist who hits their metrics as well.
