Thank you for sharing your personal opinion. Our firm will provide reading material and other information to our employees for the purpose of expressing gratitude, fostering firm culture, and promoting professional development. Inevitably, such contributions will have been designed, created, manufactured, published, and/or distributed from sources whose business, personal, spiritual and/or political practices will not align with 100% of consumers or their intended recipients. No employee is required or obligated to accept and utilize such reading material or information, nor participate in any activity that addresses these reading materials and other information. Further, these reading materials and other information do not violate of our firm policy, or any local, state or federal policy, as it relates to harassment, discrimination, or any other workplace practice or condition that could be considered unfair. Religious literature is characterized as language that is authoritative in nature as it pertains to the moral commandments and admonitions of a religious community. By way of example, a book written by an internationally recognized leadership expert, who is also the founder and former CEO of a leadership and career development company, and who makes no reference to spiritual beliefs and practices therein, does not qualify as “religious material.” Thank you, and we wish you well in your future endeavors.

Pros

By far, this is the best firm I have worked for. There has always existed opportunities for professional and personal development if you are someone who is ready and willing to step up and be a contributing force. Management is considerate of work/life balances and are conscientious to acknowledge the hard work of their staff. Other attributes of the firm: integrity, professionalism, team atmosphere, convenient location, culturally diverse. I truly enjoy everyone I work with, the experience I have gained and the continued opportunities to advance within the firm.

Cons

Communication is always tricky in any firm. Management is very aware of the need for increased, streamlined communication between management and staff as well as between the various departments, and I have noticed a vast improvement in recent months.

Pros

They focus on a niche industry for audit and tax and it’s interesting to learn. One of the partners was helpful in learning about its nuances.

Cons

The admin managers only care about keeping the partners happy. The rest of the staff, including managers, are irrelevant to them. If they don’t like you, they will insult and belittle you to others behind your back. It was always fun to get a run down of what they said a couple days later from multiple coworkers. When addressing this issue with the partners I was told to deal with it myself and then the admin ignored my meeting request (a manager by the way) to address her behavior. Good times. The main partner is a bully and will actively seek to put you on the spot and make you feel unintelligent. If you call to ask a question on a complex issue, he’ll ask why you don’t already know the answer or get upset and tell you he doesn’t have time. He’ll call on your PTO enough to the point that you just have to ignore it and then he’ll leave a voicemail to put you on a guilt trip. After a year of service, I received a 3% raise. Whatever though. It was a tough year. COVID 19 issues and such. Even though the company received a generous amount of PPP loans that weren’t required to be paid back and later posted an article on LinkedIn letting everyone know how they could handle 6% inflation. Asking around, other coworkers received similar percentage increases. Working hours during busy season were brutal. A hallmark of the profession. However, the firm’s inability to retain employees due to its culture only made things more difficult.

Most are aware the COVID-19 pandemic forced many businesses to shut down or completely fold. Spiegel was fortunate to have been deemed an essential business, and management was determined to keep all team members employed during this incredibly challenging time. While it was difficult to direct an entire remote team, management kept its promise and not one employee was furloughed, laid off, or had their compensation decreased, despite some performance issues. And, at the end of 2020, all employees received a year-end bonus, unlike other industry firms. The PPP loans, which Spiegel applied for and received, helped our firm navigate through these extraordinary circumstances, as well as compensate our team members financially for their hard work and dedication. We understand that, due to the nature of the busy tax season, the work environment may become stressful during this time. The leadership team certainly appreciates the extra hours that each of our employees put in to completing the extra work required. Thank you, and we wish you the best in your future endeavors.
