Pros

A charter school designed for children on the autism spectrum - AWESOME! My job as a teacher is rewarding because our approach to education works. I actually get to educate students, and I have the support of administration and parents - again, AWESOME! No tenured positions and no teacher's union means bad teachers disappear quickly.

Cons

Every teacher is a special education case manager - rewarding, but enormous volumes of paperwork and frustration with silly laws (as with any special education position). You have to be truly committed to students and able to thrive in a team-oriented work environment or you will not last long.

Pros

- Genuinely life-changing experiences with students - Get to work with truly dedicated colleagues who value their profession and see this as their life's work. - Friendly social environment - Located in an area with lots of off-campus lunch options, including a grocery store across the street - Entertaining and engaging activities daily - Learn many applicable skills and subjects - Many opportunities to meet people from different backgrounds - Make meaningful connections with students beyond graduation - See real effects of your efforts in student success - Variety of training opportunities - Diverse staff, with a work environment that supports inclusion and respect

Cons

- Severely overworked and under-compensated. You will likely be performing frequent off-contract and unpaid work, sometimes past hours. Work/life balance becomes nonexistent if you are good at your job. - Improper safety protocols that endanger staff and students - Poor morale all year long and in every department. The only solutions given are 3d printed fidget toys and condescending seminars explaining how to care more about your job. - Very frequent nepotism hiring. Said individuals are often held to much lower standards of professionalism and rarely face meaningful repercussion of any kind for poor behavior - Severely understaffed, with high turnover rate among both teachers and paraprofessionals - Most hostile HR department I've ever worked for - Sneaky contract, will likely write you out of defending yourself from any unjust action on the organization's part - Dishonest and neglectful treatment of students for the sake of maintaining good-looking data and "compliance" - Unprofessional expectations, particularly in regards to student boundaries and use of messaging platforms
