Slimy Toxic Waste of Time - Anonymous employee Small Business BC Employee Review

Small Business BC has become a very toxic work environment. Upper management has no interest in using employee feedback despite efforts to solicit it. The same concerns have been addressed over and over by countless staff members who are told to to swallow the wrath of poor management decisions or else. The "or else" part results in a revolving door of new applicants much more educated and qualified than the management staff itself. Management is incapable of standing up to either the CEO or BD, leaving staff to continuously deal with the same problem over and over instead of facing it with proper business management tactics. Management uses bullying, fear tactics, and micro management of menial tasks to keep staff from raising concerns. Being funded by both the federal government and the provincial government should raise some red flags to the general public. While we firmly believe in our ability to deliver an excellent and necessary public service for small business up-starts, the sunk money on over valued management wages, private high end lunches, 5 star hotel stays is alarming. Management wages are far above market value, while the rest of the staff is drastically underpaid considering experience and qualifications. A severe lack of education and marketable skills in the management team. There has been many things to raise concern over the years and perhaps one should not be surprised by the heavy slide into darkness here. Praise only goes to a single member of management who inexplicably has little or nothing to do with the success of the proposed win. Promotions have occurred out of the blue despite a lack of industry/ position knowledge, titles artificially altered to "VP", extracurricular tasks and networking taken away from staff responsibilities, communications very restrictive and selective. This organization employs bullying and a general attitude that they don't care as a management style. There continues to be a mass exodus from this organization. Avoid at all costs.
