Pros

Great colleagues. Decent, cheap product.

Cons

Management will take advantage of you. Raises are few and far between and have never kept up with cost of living regardless of your contributions, tenure, or experience. I was a top performer every year, but I was losing money by continuing to work there. They will allow you to participate in Dish’s employee stock purchase program, but the company is doing so poorly that you’ll end up losing all that money anyway. The other benefits are not really benefits at all: embarrassingly low amount of time off, terrible health coverage for which you front the entire premium, and no flexibility in how or where you work. On top of this, you can expect layoffs of invaluable team members whenever the stock price takes a dip. The culture is terrible in that they treat you like children, expect you to be in you desk 8 hours every day, and will write you up even if your mere seconds late to badge in for the day, all while saying how culture is their top priority (it’s literally a quarterly pizza party). They still, though, have the nerve to set the expectation that you are to work weekends whenever management needs you to, not to mention being on call for 180 days of every year. I’d like to say that this is unique to Sling’s IT department, but in my experience these cons are pervasive to both Sling and Dish as a whole.

Pros

Lots of growth opportunities. It is a scrappy company with a start up feel. Which means you get to learn a lot.

Pros

There are some incredibly smart people that currently work, or have passed thorough here, so you get to work with some truly amazing people. You will be give an enormous amount of work, and the more you show you can do competently, the more work you will be given. This can be a good and bad thing. If you are looking to build experience, you will be able to gain experience faster here than almost anywhere. But, if you are good at what you do, they will saddle you with more work than can possibly be done.

Cons

The culture is not great. There used to be a lot of fun events, and team culture events. But they have all been replace with stiff, corporate feeling, in office events, that make it feel like they don't value employees enough to invest in them. Anything that spends money on employees is seen as a waste of money and not an investment in culture and wellbeing of employees.
