Pros
Some kind coworkers in nearby stores, flexible scheduling at times, and opportunities to learn multiple aspects of retail operations. Opportunity for retail management experience.
Cons
Severe understaffing and unrealistic expectations make the workload unsustainable. Store managers are salaried but underpaid for the hours and responsibilities required, and pay has even been docked despite “exempt” status. Payroll budgets often allow only single-coverage shifts. Promised raises or advancement rarely happen. Bonuses are competitive between stores, capped each month, and depend on other locations’ performance, which kills motivation. When I requested a medical accommodation, leadership responded defensively and delayed instead of collaborating, showing little real support for employees with health needs.
