Pros

The job is super flexible, as long as the Store Manager is cool, when you hit your hours for the week, you are done. This allows for a good work/life balance. I play softball 5 nights a week, lift weights, am pursuing my MBA (Which SW pays for), and go to the gym while working full time. Benefits are great, especially coming out of college and in this economy! Pay is average to above average, depending on if you hit bonus or not. Good experience in running a store, dealing with customers, HR functions, financial aspects of the business, along with managing employees. This is a great job to have coming out of college because you get a lot of experience in a lot of different areas. I wouldn't work in a store forever, but in the short-term, it is great!

Cons

Retail is Retail. You don't work retail unless you know what you are getting yourself into. Stores are open during the weekends, but like I said earlier, after you work so many hours, you are done for the week. Sometimes corporate people implement ideas they think are good into the store when in all reality, they haven't worked in a store for so long that it is actually NOT a good idea. I would say that the PSG (Paint Stores Group) makes a lot of money for the company and it would be foolish not to get feedback from store level employees. This is critical and can make a big difference in the net profit of a store. The job can be hard on the body, walking around 80% of the day and working 12 hour days sometimes can really hit you hard.

Pros

A positive work environment. The best co-workers I have had so far in my career worked with me at Sherwin. I also worked under an amazing management team. There is a lot of room for career growth. I worked for Sherwin for about 3.5 years. I started as a contracted lab technician, then I was hired full time as an R&D Associate Chemist. I quickly worked my way up to R&D Chemist within a year of being hired full time. The department I worked in was very fast paced, however, I know there are many other groups that move at a much slower pace with longer timelines. This would make it much easier to manage the workload.

Cons

Working with marketing was challenging at times. We would regularly receive big requests a day before they needed something. This would pose a challenge when you had other priorities to attend to. The pay was average. I do think it could have been slightly higher for all of the job responsibilities given to the chemists in my group specifically. The workload was overwhelming at times.
