Pros

biggest physical energy portfolio players in the world. interesting products and markets. massive balance sheet and good risk appetite. Relatively sophisticated for its size and budget. On the whole very pleasant people to work with, who by and large seem happy to be there. Generous holiday time.

Cons

volatile compensation scheme heavily coloured by politics. a zero-sum forced ranking system which kills esprit de corps. Thin systems/quant/tech support. Antique deal capture. Responsibility too syndicated among non-specialists who can hold up projects for no good reason. Erosion of competence due to high turnover, especially in technical support and administrative functions.

Pros

Early career engineers are given significant ownership and exposure to complex operational challenges. Strong focus on safety, technical development, and collaboration across disciplines. Opportunities to work on high-impact projects, interact with senior leadership, and contribute to decisions affecting major assets and infrastructure.

Cons

Workloads can be demanding, and priorities can shift quickly based on operational needs. Decision-making processes can be slow due to organizational complexity, and geographic mobility may be necessary for certain career opportunities.
