Pros

Can engage in conversation with friendly customers. Free food (after they've been taken off the heat rack)

Cons

Basic pay. ALWAYS on your feet. Worst breaks ever. Once I did a night shift (I'll explain the cons of that next) 10pm to 6am and asked to carry on working. We had the busiest ever morning and I finally left at around 1pm. I had to ask for a 10 minute break baring in mind I had NO BREAK during my night shift. I thought it would be fair on myself to extend that by 5 minutes and got told off. I repeat, I HAD NO BREAK DURING MY NIGHT SHIFT AND HAD TO ASK FOR A MINI BREAK AFTER THE BUSY PERIOD. DON'T do a night shift. The amount of tasks there are to do is crazy AND potentially you could never get a break. In between your tasks you have to also serve (drunk) customers through a window. One shift it took me 3 hours to NOT watch an episode of South Park.

Pros

Early career engineers are given significant ownership and exposure to complex operational challenges. Strong focus on safety, technical development, and collaboration across disciplines. Opportunities to work on high-impact projects, interact with senior leadership, and contribute to decisions affecting major assets and infrastructure.

Cons

Workloads can be demanding, and priorities can shift quickly based on operational needs. Decision-making processes can be slow due to organizational complexity, and geographic mobility may be necessary for certain career opportunities.
