Pros
You'll have plenty of free time. The teaching program and materials are easy to implement
Cons
Beware of taking a job with Shane English School Thailand. In short, they do not honor their salary guarantee, there's no visa support, and if a teacher objects they are fined and threatened. I started with Shane in January and still have not received a copy of my contract. In February the salary guarantee was 70 hours not 96. The following month I had to refuse to teach in order to be paid on time. This last month I have not received any documentation on hours worked nor have I been paid. When asked about it I get conflicting stories from Dee, the center manager. I asked the academic director, Daniel, about this and was dismissed back to Dee. As for the visa and work permit, Maem will wait until the last minute and go completely silent if there's an issue. She will request for all teachers register with immigration in Pattaya whether or not you even live in that state. This goes against Thai law. In my case I had to spend several days going to immigration on my own to get an extension so I can remain in the country. There's not enough hours for the full time teachers to get 96 hours. The schedule changes weekly. Teachers pay both the employer's and employee's portion of the social security tax. They will not allow to have a copy of your contract, paystubs, hour sheets, nor disciplinary actions. This is one of those places you hear horror stories about. I hope this helps someone in avoiding the terrible choice I made by trusting them.
