Pros

Try to ply you with food, great if you want to eat crap all day whilst sitting at a desk! Training was good, attempted to set you up for the job.

I worked at Severn Trent Pride Park Derby for a short time as a temporary job whilst I was waiting to start a different role at a time when they were implementing a new system. It was a mess, we were expected to tell customers with urgent and time sensitive issues that they'd get a call back within 10 days. Obviously customers were often unhappy and that was our fault. My manager was childish, inconsistent, unfair and frankly confusing. The goalposts were constantly changing in what was/wasn't acceptable. It started out with being encouraged to get up and take a 5 minute break every so often, however this wasn't acceptable, you had to sit and take call after call up until your lunch and then same for the rest of the day, even being questioned if you had to pop to the toilet 20 minutes before the end of your shift. No consideration you may have been stuck on an hour long call needing to go. Lunchtimes were set by the manager, although if you take it at the time set you'd be told off like a child because calls were waiting, if you don't take it at the time set you mess the timings up and aren't a team player. Our lunch breaks reduced from 1 hour to 30 minutes, supposedly we could take shorter breaks throughout the day to make up the extra 30 minutes, only if you want to get in trouble for leaving the desk though. Severn Trent are a prime example of all talk, no action, on the face of it they pretend to care about employees but in reality you are expected to sit and constantly take calls from angry customers and it's your fault if the customer isn't happy by the end of the call. Micro management was unbelievable and every second of your day is scrutinised. My advice if you do work there is answer as many calls as possible, fob the customers off as quickly as you can so you can just get your numbers up.
