Fired. - Landscape Architect Sebago Technics Employee Review

Pros

- Friendly, talented colleagues - Generally good benefits

Cons

- Critical issues with upper management. Honest, respectful feedback is not always welcome and response to feedback can be hostile. - Micromanagement on how work is completed. Digital concept development is not allowed by Landscape Designers and Landscape Architects as management inflexibly mandates old fashioned by-hand design and is not open to change or diversified means of concept production. - Employee-owned mantra warps into “do more for less.” Time on committees to improve company culture is encouraged but not compensated. * I would encourage anyone considering working for this company to reach out to past employees before putting your financial and health coverage in their hands. Don’t let “The Sebago Way” juice get to your head. There has been significant turnover in recent years. It may be an “employee-owned” company, but your voice is only valued if certain owners agree with you. There’s a very fuzzy line here between encouraging you to bring something unique to the table and pushing you out because you “aren’t a right fit” for the company.

We regret that you feel this way about your experiences. At our company, we strive to ensure that every employee has a voice and receives ample support and opportunities for success. Despite our efforts, our conversations about expectations and improvement did not yield desired results. As a company fully owned by its employees, we recognize that our collective success hinges on individual achievements. We foster an inclusive culture that values honest, respectful dialogue and empowers employees to grow and develop their skills. Our employee-centered approach encourages open communication, collaboration, and active engagement in all aspects of our operations. We are pleased that you also recognized the positive aspects of your time with us. Our employee owners are not only skilled professionals but also good-hearted individuals, and we take great pride in their contributions. Additionally, we are proud of the comprehensive benefits and competitive compensation we provide. While we strive to be an excellent employer, we acknowledge that our company may not be the right fit for everyone. Again, we are sorry your employment ended in the way it did; we certainly had hopes for a better outcome.

Pros

Hey there! If you're thinking about joining our team, let me give you the inside scoop. First off, the vibe here is pretty awesome. We're all about teamwork, trust, and helping each other grow. It's not just empty talk – you really feel it every day. And let me tell you, it's actually fun to be part of this crew! One of the coolest things? There's always something going on. We've got this thing called "doughnut day" (yes, it's as good as it sounds), free lunches, and breakfasts. Who doesn't love free food, right? But it's not just about the grub. We've got ESOP month (employee stock ownership plan, if you're wondering), quarterly owner meetings, and even coffee chats with the CEO. It's pretty neat to feel like you're really in the loop. Oh, and if you're into getting involved, there are tons of employee-led teams. We've got a green team, safety squad, training crew, and something called the Sebago way team (you'll learn about that when you join us!). It's cool to see people taking charge and making a difference. For all you sports fans out there, we've got you covered. The company sponsors teams for softball, bowling, and disk golf. Word on the street is we're adding basketball and volleyball soon. It's a great way to bond with your coworkers outside of the office. Now, about the work itself – it's refreshing how we handle things here. Instead of boring performance reviews, we focus on supporting each other to meet deadlines and crush our goals. Speaking of goals, our COO runs this awesome annual goal-setting series. It really helps you figure out what you want to achieve and how to get there. Is it perfect? Well, no place is. Individuals that may not enjoy a fast paced work week and eager energy to grow should look elsewhere. Efforts, energy and mastery are encouraged, rewarded and advanced! But overall, I gotta say, it's a pretty great place to work. The people, the opportunities, the support – it all adds up to an experience that's hard to beat. So, if you're considering joining us, I'd say go for it! You might just find yourself writing a review like this someday.

Cons

Now, let me be clear: this isn't a place for those looking to coast by. We're a team of go-getters who thrive on challenges and aren't afraid to roll up our sleeves. If you're the type who waits to be told what to do, or not eager to advance our work, you might find yourself struggling to keep up with the pace here.
