Pros

Excellent reward and recognition for effort . You get out what you put in, with uncapped earning potential. Very talented colleagues provide support across all departments Every day brings variety and is never boring. Provided you maintain a required level of activity, you can choose your own adventure, concentrating on industries/roles that you may have a passion or natural attraction for, then mix things up and diversify to keep your interest up. It's very rewarding work when you help clients achieve success in growing their workforce, through your efforts, strongly supported by relevant specialists and teams. Good prospects to move sideways or upwards, to gain experience and grow your skill-set in other departments.

Cons

The base salary is relatively low but good commission is there for the taking. It's up to you. Whilst the first 12 mths can be challenging, as you build your client base, strong sales skills, and perhaps some financial backing, will help you through the early days. It's not an easy role, but would you really want easy? There are challenging times to get through, to reach your potential and forecasts so it takes persistence and endurance, that will not suit everybody. The sales role doesn't suit those who are uncomfortable speaking with all levels of management or who lack confidence in oral and written skills but good communicators, who love 'talking the talk' will thrive. Whilst strong teamwork exists, you need to also be able to work independently, be self-motivating and just get on with it. Don't take a prospect's rejection personally as some are open to assistance and others are not...move on from a 'no' to the next 'yes'!

Thanks for sharing your thoughtful and practical perspective - especially given you're someone with long-standing experience in the business. You've captured the reality of our sales environment well: it's demanding, varied, and very rewarding for people who enjoy autonomy, momentum, and the satisfaction of helping clients grow. The balance between independence and strong cross-team support is something we work hard to maintain, and I'm pleased to see that reflected here. You're also right that the role isn’t easy, particularly in the early stages. We’re upfront that success requires resilience, strong communication skills, and consistency - and that it won’t suit everyone. For those who do lean in, the opportunity to build deep capability, strong relationships, and meaningful earning potential is real. Thank you as well for the suggestion around salary packaging. I'll take this on board and ask someone in our team to look into options. I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and for the contribution you continue to make at STG. - Andrea, CEO

Pros

Working at Scout has given me many opportunities to explore and develop my potential. The leadership team is very supportive of career goals and truly listens to their employees. As a returning employee, I feel very fortunate to be welcomed back, and I’m grateful that the company understood my situation and accepted me without hesitation. Having worked with international companies before, I can confidently say that Scout genuinely values its employees. This is reflected not only in the support and trust shown by leadership, but also in the inclusive culture, flexibility, and respect for individual circumstances. Scout creates an environment where people feel heard, supported, and motivated to do their best work. I returned to Scout because I truly believe in the software and the people behind it. I love how we help thousands of people find jobs and contribute to changing lives. I also enjoy helping our clients grow their organisations by connecting them with the right talent. Being part of this success is a true honor and something I’m proud to be involved in. I’m passionate about the product and feel grateful to support our clients in finding their best people while helping candidates land their dream jobs.

Cons

The work can be demanding at times, but it drives learning, skill development, and personal growth. Multiple priorities and tight deadlines. Balancing several tasks can be challenging, but it strengthens time management and organisational skills. Being entrusted with important tasks can feel demanding, but it builds confidence, accountability, and problem-solving skills.

Thank you for sharing this reflection and for your long-term commitment to STG. Hearing from someone who has grown with us (and returned to us) is incredibly meaningful. I’m glad you’ve felt supported in your career goals and welcomed back with understanding and trust. Creating an inclusive environment where people feel heard and valued as individuals is something we care deeply about, and it’s encouraging to see that reflected in your experience. You’re also right - the work can be demanding, and priorities can be tight at times. I appreciate how you’ve framed that challenge as part of the learning and growth that comes with being trusted to do meaningful work. Thank you for believing in our software, our purpose, and our people. The impact you describe ... for candidates, clients, and the broader community ... is exactly why we do what we do. - Andrea, CEO

Pros

The team I'm in wants nothing but the best for everyone. That is something fostered by every single person at scout. 1. They actually see you. Recognition here isn't just a generic "good job" email. It’s a teammate reaching out to say thanks for helping with their project, or the entire company flying to another country for our yearly retreat to bond and celebrate. You feel like a person, not just a headcount. 2. They backed my career pivot. The growth here is real. I used to work with psychologists, and now I’m coding every single day. I wasn't forced into it; I just saw a way I could help our clients more effectively, and my leaders jumped at the chance to support me. They didn't just give me a "go-ahead"—they gave me the tools and the mentorship to actually succeed at it. 3. They listen (even when it’s tough). No company is perfect, but Scout is great at "listening through the noise." Between monthly reports and private chats with senior leaders, they really try to see where we can improve. It’s an environment built on kindness and actually being accountable for making things better. 4. You aren't stuck in a box. If you want to move up, you can. But you can also move "diagonally." I’ve watched friends move from my team into Dev or Sales. At Scout, if you want to try something new, you just have to start the conversation. 5. The support is everything. This is the big one for me. There is zero judgment here. If I’m struggling with a project, I can go to my lead or anyone on the team and just say, "I’m stuck." Instead of feeling pressured, I’m given the space to learn and get the feedback I need to do it better next time. There are several other areas to highlight but i want to remain objective and simply highlight the amazing ways Scout stands out from anywhere else I've worked!

Cons

No company is perfect, and if you care about where you work, you’re always going to see areas that need shaping. Here’s the honest side of things: 1.The pace is intense. The work is engaging, but it’s definitely demanding. Managing a lot of moving parts on the fly can be stressful, and it took me a while to find a rhythm that actually worked for me without feeling overwhelmed. 2. Change takes time. Being a software company, I see so many ways we could improve our tools to make life easier for everyone. While leadership recognizes these ideas, the actual "build time" can feel slow. It can be frustrating when you see a solution but have to wait for it to come to fruition. 3. Sales is a tough gig. Our Sales team has high expectations placed on them. It’s definitely not a "70-calls-a-day" call center vibe, but the daily pressure is real. I have a lot of respect for them because I can see how that line of work takes its toll. At the end of the day, I’ve seen the other reviews out there, and I don’t think they should be dismissed - every story has two sides. But for me, the recent growth, the genuine care I see from everyone around me, and the personal milestones I’ve hit are what keep me at Scout. I’m here because the "good" is backed by real action.

Thank you for such a thoughtful and balanced review. I appreciate the care you’ve taken to reflect both what’s working well and where we still have room to improve. Hearing that you feel seen, supported, and trusted to grow, particularly through a meaningful career pivot, means a great deal. Creating an environment where people are recognised as humans first, and encouraged to explore their potential, is something we care deeply about. Your comments on pace, change, and pressure are also fair. We do move quickly, and balancing ambition with sustainability - especially in a growing software business - is an ongoing challenge. Feedback like this helps us keep refining that balance and investing where it matters most. I also like your point about uncovering hidden talent across the team. That’s a good reminder, and one we can absolutely lean into more. Thank you for being part of STG and for contributing so thoughtfully to making it better. - Andrea, CEO
