Pros
Met an amazing group of people here and made many friends! Location is quite easy to get to from both ends of town and there is a good train/bus service. Not the worst job in the world if you are fairly young and looking for a full time job to get back on your feet. Once you know what you are doing the job is fairly easy. Wouldn’t recommend a call centre job for more than 2 years. Many colleagues you will come across are very easy to talk to and happy to help you if you are struggling with something. From my experience, all the managers I had were very supportive and good listeners. No problems with my managers directly - issues are more on a business level rather than personal.
Cons
Was working her around 4 years in total. Training was a disaster as we had to commute to Livingstone every day for 4 weeks as the Edinburgh office had no space for us which resulted in me having to get leave around 7am each day and did not get home until around 6:30pm at night! Despite being told there were a wide range of development opportunities within the call centre this was not the case. The only way you had any chance of progressing was if you got along with the managers/coaches. The same people are chosen for the same jobs. Despite being highly experienced and knowledgable, someone could walk in the door and be there a matter of months and the next thing you know, they are your manager. Call centre turns you into a robot. Taking calls all day everyday becomes soul destroying. When you do have the opportunity to do something different such as development time or a meeting with your manager, this gets pulled as the phones are too busy. Demotivating and quite frankly, extremely boring. As I mentioned above - always the same group of people getting opportunities. End of year rating system is awful and unfair. Despite going over and above my job role in so many different aspects, I was given the average rating of “good performer” each year. People in my team who had done less were given “strong” and even “top” performer. Again, this is simply down to if your manager likes you or not. The culture here is more like school than a place of work. People constantly looking over your shoulder and breathing down your neck. We are not trusted to do our job like adults should be. Very clique culture within management and other colleagues. I feel like I gave so much to this company - was always hardworking, never late, barely off sick and always put my best into everything I was asked to do but sadly received nothing much back in return. I work for a company now who are the total opposite of everything I have mentioned in the cons section and I am 100x happier at work.
