Unprofessional staff - Team Leader Sam's Club Employee Review

Pros

The pay is better then most places. The people are usually good to work with. You get a free membership for working there and 10% off fresh fruits and vegetables year round and 10% all fresh departments around Holiday time (thanksgiving - New Year.) Great place for high school and college students to work.

Cons

Management staff is unprofessional. Many fraternize with associates or team leaders outside of work. They have poor communication skills. Handle problems poorly by solving the immediate problem, rather then the underlying one. Bad associates are given more chances then they deserve and those who go above and beyond are not appreciated. Management has lack involvement with associates and in-turn drives down associate moral. The mentoring program for supervisors is non-existent. You are lucky if your manager even knows what you do on a day to day basis. In order to move up you must spend a lot of time chatting with the managers in the office by designating a lot of your tasks to your associates, which is near impossible with the automated scheduling because your departments are under staffed (especially if you are a floor team lead) and most tasks must be done by you. Management falsifies interviews. They already choose who will get a position and post the requisition after wards. ( I know because I got both my positions that way and have been bragged to by individuals who have gotten them in the same way.) Training is not supplied to the extent they want you to preform. Most associates are thrown into position without being prepared.

Pros

At the corporate level, the benefits and compensation are excellent. Colleagues at the producer level are standout teammates, talented, collaborative, and genuinely invested in the company's success. They consistently bring forward meaningful contributions and make the day-to-day work rewarding.

Cons

"Chaos" is not a word I'm using loosely. It's the word echoed across teams, including outside of Experience and Product. Leadership operates in a constant state of upheaval: frequent role changes, structural reorganizations, and strategy pivots that are implemented without any clear plan or consideration of cross-team impact. Incredibly talented people are let go as a result of poor leadership and people management decisions. There is no real culture of mentorship above the senior manager level. Leadership above the senior manager level made clear that mentorship isn't their responsibility and that you're expected to figure it out on your own, despite the company having training resources available. That disconnect is telling.
