Pros
It looks better on a resume than fast food. Not much else.
Cons
Poor management, highly disorganized scheduling and uneven workloads; supposedly union yet it makes no difference; many rude, self entitling customers to pacify. For $7.60 an hour, I ring up purchases, load them in carts, listen to peoples problems, have intense anger directed at me, have sick people cough at me, deal with coupons, hawk whatever corporate promotions are going on, not have a schedule ready until the day it starts, having said schedule changed mid-shift and not being told about it, being told to smile when an inspector or secret shopper may be in the store. It's not as bad as my last job, though. I've worked long hours without breaks, and all my supervisor said was "I haven't had a break, either." Well, he got paid much more to not take his break. When I have to wait 4 hours to get some water or eat something or pee, it's going to make doing my already stressed job that much harder.
