Pros

Very focused on client satisfaction now. A change the guard some years ago has lead to awesome growth; particularly in the Southeast. A great place to learn quickly - new employees are trained quickly and put in front of clients to increase their visibility and gain confidence. You're also encouraged to care about your work and the quality of your product. Pretty solid benefits package - I was happy with it. The fact that SCS is employee owned is a nice bonus. Emphasis is put on formal internal project management training. Many other processes that were assumed to be intrinsically understood are now being formalized and actively taught.

Cons

Going through some growing pains right now. The company is trying to make the leap from a medium-sized to large, so success across the profit centers has fluctuated. I believe however that SCS has the management team in place that can make it work sooner rather than later. That same change in leadership has lead to quite a bit of turnover. Veteran employees have found it necessary to prove themselves all over again; newer employees get the benefit of the doubt. If you're looking for a firm with a large variety of practice areas, this isn't the place. Moreover, it's easy to get pigeonholed into a highly specific practice area - for younger professionals that can be a double edged sword. You can become an expert in a single area very quickly at the cost of gaining experience most if not all others. The internal structure of the company discourages working in multiple practice areas.

Pros

Staff is super nice and friendly, lots of field visits, and learning opportunities. As an intern, I never got bored and felt like I learned a lot about solid waste. Company has a lot of opportunities to grow as an engineer.

Cons

Feast and famine culture like any other consulting job but it compliments nicely with field work.
