Not the prestige company it was once known , new entrants average around 2 pound less then legacy staff (3 year plus )even though from day one your doing exactly the same job if not more difficult as they have picked all of the decent rounds /walks and your left to float around all the of the jobs that’s cannot be covered in my example zero training ,typical day consist of arriving preparing frame (putting mail ,door to doors ,small untracked parcels in there )scanning in all tracked parcels usually in excess of 110 on my current walk ,collect special delivery parcels then load all mail and parcels in van usualy out for around 9-10 o’clock unless heavy days weds expect 150 -200 parcels plus ,once out it’s a case of delivering mail and delivering parcels emptying the odd Mail box and collecting all customer collections you acquired that day you will share a van with another worker so split mail and delivering parcels on the way to the routes ,if your not going to achieve your loads you’ve acquired that day contact management by 1.30 to let them know why !first class tracked 24 special then become a priority,end of day return to depo offload all undelivered parcels scan back in ,return all parcels back to frame and undelivered mail ,scan wall and return pda,that’s just a brief day at Royal Mail ,no breaks as new entrants do not get payed so to acquire the same breaks as the person you share the van with (who’s been there for 3 years )you must start everyday 40 minutes before them ,you wurnt get payed bonuses for door to doors even though you will need to put them into frame ,although on Saturdays when over staffed people will provide door to doors even though relief for legacy staff you will need to put them in yourself when you get time, all in all the Royal Mail senior /legacy is totally unfair you learn the job after a week so to be classed as a reserve not being able to achieve a walk unless your the managers best friend or willing to do the bottom of the barrel and even them are rare for people to get under 5 year service ,positives for the business everyday expect 20k steps so you keep nice and active
