Benefits are decent, and pay is good (but not worth the workload)
Cons
More than half of my department had left within the past couple of months because the workload is unmanageable, the expectations of the buying teams are unrealistic, and there is rarely any acknowledgement for your accomplishments. It is a sink or swim environment, and your told to learn by failure. There is way too much pressure put onto Assistants, as we are forced to wear too many different hats, and manage huge portions of the business that is way above our paygrade. Your experience as an Assistant Buyer truly depends on your manager, and unfortunately it is more often than not, not a good one. In order to get promoted, you have to prove that you are already doing the role of the title you are trying to get promoted to (so doing the job, but not getting the pay for it).
