      Pros

      If you are self motivated and want to learn on the job then this is a good company to join. There is plenty of opportunity to get hands on with a wide range of technology across a variety of environments.

      Cons

      Field engineers can end up doing a lot of travel, but the expenses payments are better than most and cover the costs.

You are spot on about the opportunity to get hands on with all kinds of technology, which is highly encouraged and backed up with a great deal of training. Your advice is excellent - and we have done exactly what you say with technical leads taking ownership for the technical aspects of projects.

      Pros

      Experience in a fast paced work environment. Some nice people come through the doors occasionally.

      Cons

      Expectation is that you hit the ground running at 110% regardless of your background or experience, and it only gets more difficult from there. Management are terrible, with no idea how to motivate or organise a workforce. Everything is on the engineer and their life. All the miles driven, all the calls made all the travel time taken without a hint of it being paid back or an incentive given. Work hours here are long and tough and the pay will be well below the average if they can hook you in at that lower level. No respect or encouragement is given from above and nothing is expressed or given to make you want to better yourself with them or work your way up. The office isn't particularly nice either.

      Thanks for the comments, I appreciate your views on the 'pros' and we always look for areas where we can improve. Many of our technical staff really enjoy the opportunity to experience a wide variety of technologies and work directly with our customers. We provide a great deal of training to support this, and those who are motivated to learn and do well can progress to senior technical roles. There is excellent support from the management team and office based staff who are without exception friendly, polite and professional.
