The vacancies are getting out of control. There are some territories that have been abandoned for over a year. Retailers are upset they have not seen a rep from the company. And when someone shows up, it’s a revolving door of reps trying to visit the stores for call coverage and not actually helping the customer with their needs. TMs are expected to meet the goals of their own territory while trying to cover vacant territories. All at the same time the company is pushing initiatives down the pipeline with full knowledge of all the vacancies. There are divisions out there with half of the team vacant and the remaining members have to work double. Somethings like quality of service and taking care of our accounts are sacrificed for the good of hitting a call coverage number.
Pay has been mentioned here many times but it is a serious cause for concern. Even when they increase the pay structure, people are still leaving the organization. I think the company miscalculated the competitive rate and it shows from all the resignations. Some of our most seasoned TM veterans in the field even DMs and KAMs have put in resignations for better opportunities in most recent years.
Last one is toxic DMs. Some are great leaders giving full support to their teams. But TMs within regions all know (and talk about) who is the DM and/or DMs no one wants. We have all seen first hand how some DMs drive their teams down to the point of depression (medical stress leave) and end up leaving the company. The DMs are given too much control and not enough accountability for the results of their actions.
