Pros
Company car - although they deduct $150 from your check monthly when no other companies in the industry do that. 401k, medical, dental
Cons
You will most likely have to leave the company to create your own promotion opportunities. I was on their “succession list” for a number of years. Basically, if your on succession it means management has given their blessing in getting you promoted. The tobacco industry is on decline and with that said, so are the promotion opportunities. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people looking for a promotion and nationally, there may only be one spot per year with 20-30 people waiting their turn. If you happen to get lucky to be offered, be prepared to get whisked off to some desolate area. And if you turn it down you might as well pack your bags because you just blackballed yourself. There is only one path for advancement for a TM, and that is trying to get to Account Manager. That is if there are any available. Starting pay for an Account Manager ranges in the 70’s. If I had to do it all over again, I would spend a few years here and leave. You can get a similar job in a different industry in the 80’s. That’s what I did and I am very happy. Only regret i have was being naive. Got fed the koolaid thinking I was next to get promoted and to be patient. There are people who I still talk to that are still on succession longer than I was who are still living the pipe dream. Please don’t let that be you. If you want to get promoted, create your own. Don’t leave it to chance in a delicing company. People leave because the pay is terrible. Starting pay is absolutely below the majority of the industry as well as other CPG companies. 2 things happen when you pay like this - good people leave and desperate people get hired.
