Pros

Good management Interesting work Great opportunities to develop in your career Great network

Cons

Unfair pay scale, little room for negotiation on salaries. Offices are OK despite being in central london. No social activities for team building. No training or qualifications (learning on the job). Little ethnic diversity & no efforts for cultural/religious inclusion. Interns are unpaid.

Pros

Work can be very interesting and rewarding Opportunity to become expert in your specific field of policy Members are often friendly and appreciative Some team members are considerate, helpful and supportive

Cons

Very high turnover of staff of all levels, not just junior - unfortunately this does feel a bit of a “brain drain” Pay is below average even for the not-for-profit trade association sector Lack of clarity regarding job roles, responsibilities and career progression (timelines for promotions were always pushed back when you approached previously-mentioned date) Minimal on work place culture (although this had been identified by HR and was improving with social events etc.) Take a long time to hire new staff which means existing staff take on additional responsibility for overly long periods of time - this is not acknowledged Certain departments and senior staff can act “cliquey” - they are often unprofessional, unhelpful and hostile Feelings of inertia, apathy and complacency from senior members of staff (not CEO)
