Pros

The company's ideals are amazing (open source principals).

Cons

Implementation of ideals were not congruent with ideals. People team (HR) stifled career growth (both compensation wise and responsibility wise) and had layers of micromanagement. Many employees were not actually skilled (poor hiring practices) and were in positions of power simply by virtue of being there during high growth. They were afraid of being exposed and would hide their incompetence behind micromanagement and fear based leadership styles.

Pros

- Good team culture and work-life balance if you have the right management chain - Remote work if you're not close to an office - Leadership transparency and willingness to hear feedback

Cons

- Constant re-orgs without strategy are destabilizing - Manager pool is very mixed in terms of experience and skill - Poor role definition can lead to surprises at quarterly review time - Layoffs/reductions have had a chilling effect - Lower salaries compared to competitors
