They failed to train me in all the ways I needed to perform in a relatively simple position. - Leasing Assistant Real Property Management Employee Review

Pros

I like that I can operate with a certain amount of autonomy. I spend a good portion of my day driving and listening to music or podcasts. When I'm not driving, I'm mostly showing properties to potential renters, which is also nice because they're usually one-time interactions. The other employees are generally friendly and good to talk to. The boss is incredibly charismatic, friendly, and seems to care about his employees very much. The pay is a pretty good starting pay. The job is a good entry level job. And they do a good job of adjusting your schedule if needed (if you need Wednesday evenings off early).

Cons

There is such a communication disconnect between teams and team members. Training is non-existent. I was given a week-long ride along with one of the longer leasing assistants and that was my "training." There were a dozen different tasks that I didn't know I was supposed to be responsible for, and once those problems came 6 months or even 12 months later, it was my fault for "not paying attention during the Friday meetings." As if an off-handed mention of a task not directed at me is a substitute for training. One year of working there grants me a 2% increase in pay. This isn't even enough to compensate for inflation. There is a revolving door of employees here. The turn-over is ridiculously high. I have worked under more leasing Agents than bosses in my very short professional experience. Every new leasing agent is only ever around long enough to realize that they can do better. Even the longer leasing Agents don't know how to properly communicate with their assistants. The other leasing assistants couldn't be enticed to stay longer than they have to. There is nothing encouraging us to stay, no opportunity for promotion, and no significant raise. The boss recognizes that there is a problem, but keeps coming up with wrong solutions.
