Pros

As a sales rep, I loved solving problems for the customer and RW Smith gave us the autonomy to recommend and price our items according to the customer's needs. They gave us ongoing sales training, education and support. I highly recommend this company.

Cons

Working in a remote location can be tough, but is do-able with manager support. There are alot of samples so be ready for your trunk to be full of catalogs and samples. You're in and out of your car 8-10 times a day going into accounts. It can be tough starting out with a cold territory.

Pros

You get to fly out to California 4 times a year for meetings. The 1st year you get a decent pay, but then they move you to 100% commission. They do not tell you this during the hiring process, they tell you a base plus commission. You do get a car allowance and cell phone allowance

Cons

-They lie to you about pay. They put you on 100% commission after a year which is usually less than your starting base. -they assign accounts, their favorites get the best accounts, NOT based on performance. This includes who you cold call on. -bad management, micro managing, HR had to get involved because upper management didn't care that managers bully their employees. -a lot of turnover, mainly because people stop making money on 100% commission -very unorganized -customer service not helpful, they even tell you in training not to use them -too much admin work because you have to do what customer service should be doing, not much time to sell -office people are very very rude. Purchasing, credit, and customer service do not like to help and expect you to do their work for them. -unprofessional environment, people attack you on emails -if you have any issues, just quit, don't go to HR, they will handle situation and then push you out -don't go to upper management either because they also don't care -no paid vacation, get in trouble (some even fired) for using UNPAID sick days -you have to ride along once a week with a manager no matter how long you work there -the VP comes to town and you have to do a ride along with 2-3 people. Accounts get mad at you for bringing them in -you need an entire room/garage dedicated to samples. They do not tell you this. -you have to pay for your own samples that your manager makes you order, this adds up to thousands of dollars taken out of your check for some projects -management will do anything to make the deal, even if that means you do ALL the work and make 0 commission because they give it away at cost -don't expect to get paid if you quit or get let go. -training is 3 weeks in California -very shady company, no morals
