Pros
Casual environment (probably too casual))
Cons
Unfortunately there are way too many undesirable issues to describe. If I could give zero or negative stars I would. I’m very sad that I ever worked here. I knew it seemed sketchy at first but I had no idea how bad it truly was. I’ll just speak on employee grievances, but there are a numerous and constant issues with the handling of vendors/renters/HOAs/property management. This is just the tip of the iceberg. - Main “office” is owner’s home (that’s why a P.O. Box is usually listed). Spouse and teenagers are typically present during the day, often cooking very pungent food or arguing about personal family issues. Distracting, awkward, uncomfortable, unprofessional and inappropriate. - “New” office located in Baltimore neighborhood where 2015 protests and looting occurred. - No benefits: no paid holidays, no paid vacation, no sick leave, no 401k plan, no compensation for time missed due to office closing for management’s religious observances. Hopefully this is no longer the case but I do recall that standard benefits were incorrectly listed on the old website until an employee caught it and removed the false information. - Work from home option removed after unfair and untrue accusation that one employee did not hard enough from home. - Health insurance only added to quickly lure potential employee as replacement for one that quit. - When the expensive insurance option was added, employer-covered portion was deducted from employees’ paychecks, then added back as a “bonus”. When this practice was challenged, the response was something bogus like, you were all going to get taxed on that money anyway. - Extremely high turnover due to deeply unhappy employees. - Workers’ concerns not addressed. - No formal reviews ever (not annual, semi- annual, or quarterly). - No raises or bonuses for standard employees. - No formal training - employees must “figure it out” - Quick to fire employees if a cheaper replacement is available. - Fired one employee while replacement/new hire was present in the house/office, only a few feet away in another room - Former employees have had to sue for unemployment or last paycheck. - Inappropriate comments are very often made by management. - More than one instance of overtime not being paid to employees. - More than one instance of weekly hours being reduced on submitted timesheets without informing employee. - Blame is typically placed on everyone except management. - Direction and instructions are often unclear, or changed after task is completed. - Often very tense and uncomfortable environment For the sake of the good employees that are left, I hope things have gotten better. Although I believe it would be a miracle for it to operate as a normal company due to the warped mindset of management. The bit of knowledge that can be learned from working at a very hands-on start up is not worth enduring the many negative aspects of this company.
