Where it's a lack of pleasure to work - Customer Service Staff Publix Employee Review

Pros

Flexible scheduling. If you're a student, they will often work with you on your hours, although I have had friends with different experiences, but it seems this happens outside of the Customer Service Department where they have less people to work those shifts putting strain on staff who need days off. Decent pay, although you'll find that your pay will differ to other workers for arbitrary reasons. Publix offers benefits and these are good, however if you're like me, most of them are off limits as they are for associates who work full time. Publix gives stock and bonuses to the associates which is nice, however isn't mind blowing to be quite honest.

Cons

Some of the worst managers I have ever seen in my life. Favoritism to the highest esteem. Favoritism isn't always a bad thing, it's okay when favoritism is applied to something reasonable such as work ethic, however this is not the case. Some of the staff that are held to high esteem are literally some of the most unproductive staff there is in the store. Managers will hold everyone accountable but themselves for the outcome of the work. They will not handle conflicts professionally and will only handle them in the manner that is the most convenient for them. They are lazy hypocrites, and sadly the whole store falls for that. Much of your hardwork will likely go unrecognized and will be as admissible as another associate who does enough to get by. If you don't fight for your pay, they may as well give you short raises while deserving more. In this situation it's the squeaky wheel that gets the oil. Make reasonable arguments for your pay increase if you truly are a hard working associate getting the short end of the stick. Sadly this happens because 90% of the time truly your managers will not even be there to even witness your work ethic so a lot of your efforts will go unnoticed. The reasons why they are not there...well that's something that I've mentioned up above. Worst managers ever.

Pros

Amazing 401K, free stock after one year of employment, health insurance is very good for part-time employees if only getting it for yourself, management always approves time off requests, hours are always available, will work around school schedules, tuition reimbursement program, will reimburse you for gas for work-related expenses as needed and will put you in a hotel as needed for work-related reasons that are more than 50 miles from your home.

Cons

Not every store is the same, some stores are run better than others, some managers look down upon people with disabilities, and some see people with disabilities the same as someone without disabilities, they are very big about favoritism, you have to work a lot to earn a vacation, the company does not give out sick time and full-time gets the most benefits and is next to impossible to get full-time. Also, you practically have to be a former employee with a clean record or related in some way to a current employee to get a job with the company though Kentucky Publix's don't quite function that way.
