Pros

You can positively impact families in need. You are also able to experiment with any treatment model since the job is pretty independent.

Cons

Unless you enjoy 14 hours days, this job can become exhausting quickly. When in the field staff room, most therapists and case managers are complaining about how tired they are. Policies regarding pay are changed from one day to the next and staff who depended on overtime suddenly had no more opportunity for over time. Recognition is only for those who consistently work an unhealthy amount of hours..unhealthy not just for the employee but also for the clients who are being treated by these tired therapists who have been on the road since 7 am and see their last client at 9pm. Yes they offer supervision for licensure, but it is not quality supervision since it is mostly regarding administrative work.

Pros

Opportunity to provide services in the least restrictive setting for the client, ability to create your own schedule, free supervision, overall positive company culture in the office. Excellent if you are passionate about social justice issues and are not afraid to work with high-risk, multi-problem clients and families.

Cons

Yes you can create your own schedule, but you will still be working 12 hour days during the school year because say you start at 8:30 for your earliest client, then some schools don't allow therapists in so you can't see x number of clients until they get home, then you have the clients whose parents get home after 6. Scheduling and accommodating clients can be a nightmare and the pressure to make it to 26 hour "service delivery" is debilitating at times. Also, yes supervision is free but it's more focused on administrative tasks as opposed to exploring clinical and process-oriented issues.
