Pros
Protiviti is a great place to start a career right out of college. During the first few months you are sent to "New Consultant School" where you learn all about Protiviti's methodologies and frameworks with other new hires across the country. They immediately put you on a client and are given "real" work, no coffee fetching and copying all day long. You will gain so much experience by working on a variety of processes for companies in every industry. You will also get the chance to rack up frequent flyer miles and hotel points because chances are, you'll spend a large percentage of your time on the road. There is definitely opportunity to move up in the company if you are dedicated and motivated to do so. As you move up the ranks, Protiviti will send you to the appropriate training "Schools." The annual raises will be higher (in a good economy) than for similar jobs in industry.
Cons
As with any consulting-type job, the travel can wear on you after a while. If you've been out of town for months at a time, sometimes management will work with you and promise to keep you local, but sometimes they won't or can't. Work-life balance isn't great. Women who have babies don't last long because management isn't that flexible. And health insurance is through Cigna which is not the best out there. Promotions are extremely structured, i.e., you must be a Consultant for two years prior to getting promoted to Senior Consultant. Even if you've been doing the job of a Senior Consultant after your first year, you won't be promoted early.
