Pros

Very talented, dedicated people in Operations an our front line support. Friendly coworkers.

Cons

Company has morphed rom a "family" type culture to a cold corporate borg. HR has outsourced so many functions, its now difficult to get questions answered without having to deal with some third party call center. There has been a huge growth in the numbers and layers of middle management which has insulated the Officers from the "truth on the ground". I can't remember the last time I've seen an officer out and about to get eyes on crews and work in the field. When I started with the company we would see officers regularly. When I started there were 3 layers of management between me and the CEO (Supervisor, Manager, VP) Now I have 6 layers of management between me and the CEO (Manager, Sr Manager, Sr. Director, VP, COO). The complexity and expense all these layers of management added makes work harder to get done and hold poor performing managers accountable.

Pros

The benefits at PGE are wonderful. 401k Match, a healthy amount of PTO, health support, and the pay is top notch.

Cons

There is a toxic culture being spread in Human Resources right now. There is a lack of fairness and trust being displayed by senior leadership. Most don't feel trusted to do their jobs as they constantly feel watched and monitored. There is a view of favoritism happening and it's noticed by many, observing the lack of flexibility around work life balance, hours and child/elder care responsibilities. There are many out on a leave of absence due to these stressors affecting people who were once healthy excited workers. You can see on their faces how people's health is taking a toll. SLT talks about how your mental and physical health is important, but it feels more like a liability. And in the end, there are overall feelings of if you leave, it's totally okay because they'll just replace you with someone they know. And they don't seem to care.
