Pros

The employees! Some of the most amazing people I've ever met. The customers! Open minded, kind people. The merchandise! A wonderful selection that you can be proud to represent.

Cons

Note, I worked for the retail side so this review does not include the restaurant or cafe. The problem? Inconsistent procedures. Lack of proper training to get your job done. I've never worked in an establishment where I have given my all and been so proud of what I do but in return, been so disrespected and unappreciated. Because of upper managements inconsistent expectations, this environment is toxic. One minute you're doing great and the next you're being scolded for executing duties the way you were instructed to do so the week before. I am not the first, nor the last, to have been a target of these issues. Be warned: if you're the type of employee who falls in love with your work, this is not the place for you.

It is sad for everyone when it doesn’t work out, and especially so when the employee very much wanted to succeed. We have consistent procedures that are detailed in our Manual. We give all employees the same basic training, but not all can reach the performance level that is required of the job. Even in those circumstances, when a staff member needs additional training we provide as much as we can without creating a financial hardship on the business. If this additional training does not solve the problem and another position that the employee is qualified for is available anywhere within the company, we offer them that job in an effort to retain the employee. Most retail positions, outside of basic sales positions, require strong administrative and/or visual merchandising skills that not everyone has or has the ability to learn. Sometimes, despite the training, ongoing support and ample time allowed, it doesn’t work out. We hope all of our former team members find success. Best Regards

Pros

Employee discount in all four areas, meal for every shift,

Cons

They use and abuse their good staff until they quit while overly accommodating the staff that consistently calls out or are as useful when they show up as they would have been if they had called out. Richard was overly in our business with demands but no support, while Joe and Sarah are cutting hours so there's barely any staff, making menu changes five minutes before open, and are oblivious to the amount of overcompensation some of their employees are doing while other employees quite literally stand around and be warm bodies. They're also oblivious to food safety and health code, and would consistently fail their inspections if it wasn't for a select few employees yet again overcompensating. There's also no break down of your hours and tips on your printed pay stub (and no online program) so the likelihood of them stealing wages and tips is incredibly high.

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. We’re sorry to hear that your experience at Poor Richard’s was not what you hoped for. Although we’ve only been the owners for about 90 days, we care deeply about creating a supportive, safe, and consistent workplace for every member of our team. We want to address a few points clearly and respectfully: Staff Support & Expectations We recognize that transitions in ownership can be challenging, and we’ve been working hard to stabilize staffing, clarify expectations, and build a culture where communication and accountability are shared across the team. We appreciate the employees who show up consistently and work hard, and we also address attendance and performance issues directly when they arise. Operational Changes Some menu and process adjustments were made as part of updating systems and aligning with current economic realities. We understand that change can feel disruptive, and we’re committed to improving communication around operational updates so staff feel informed and supported. Food, Safety and Compliance Food safety is a priority for us. We follow health code requirements and conduct regular internal checks, and we have passed our inspections. If any employee ever has concerns, we encourage them to bring those forward so they can be addressed promptly. Payroll Transparency We want to be very clear All hours, wages, and tips are itemized on every printed paystub, and employees can review them at any time. We take wage accuracy seriously and maintain detailed records to ensure compliance and transparency. Management Presence We are actively involved in daily operations, and we are continuing to build structure, training, and leadership support as we grow. We appreciate feedback about where we can improve, and we are committed to strengthening communication and consistency across the team. We genuinely wish you the best in your next role and hope your future experiences are positive and fulfilling.
