Pros

Most of the people there are great. Parking is free. They are good about getting you the equipment you need for working in office/at home.

Cons

Where do I start...I started here thinking it would be my forever home and 6 months in I had my first breakdown. The workload is atrocious. In my position I was doing things, not made known when I interviewed, that really should have been handled by other departments. On top of the 700-1000 plus bills we billed each month, it was mandatory to sit in on investment meetings with partners and Collections, which were for multiple attorneys, every few weeks. We had to process refunds, send out reminder statements, run reports etc. all while expected to stay on top of billing. Once you got into a groove it was somewhat manageable however, that amount of work should come with more pay. Benefits are bad. I had to get the high deductible plan because anything for myself plus family was really expensive. There is absolutely nothing positive about bonuses. Your first year you get $50 and I believe its $50 added for each year of service. So, in my 2 years my biggest bonus was $100, when at other firms I was getting up to $6000 annually. You have to pay for any drinks or snacks, which I've not seen at any other firm either. Basically anything an attorney says is taken as fact. Even if you have proof or documentation saying otherwise. Mistakes are magnified and you're crucified for them. Yet, there is no praise when you've done something good. If an attorney doesn't understand something (even when management agrees) it is your fault and you are penalized for it. An attorney can go through multiple billers and the biller is the issue, never the attorney. They do not have a good onboarding process with staff/attorneys. I was supposed to get detailed notes when I took over other biller's bills. I maybe had 2 people send me their notes. I started mid month, that next month I helped with edits and the following month I was on my own. There was one attorney who had very specific bills and ways to do his bills, I had 0 idea and looked like an idiot. That attorney complained about everything and would copy management about everything even when he made a mistake, trying to get people fired. Another attorney didn't think anyone was good enough to do his stuff, he even said my manager was incompetent to help do his bills. He complained a lot as well. And then you have the issue where attorneys with big books of business would start and their rates were wrong, their bills were not set up correctly, processes were made on the fly and as months went by and somehow that was also the biller's fault when they complained to a Practice Group Leader. Management does not take any responsibility for their mishaps/lack of training. It is always projected onto someone else. They pacify these difficult attorneys more than I have ever seen in my life. Its sad because most of the attorneys are great, there are a few bad apples that make it a toxic environment for everyone. More than one worker had to be on medication to come to work, which is never a good sign. Myself being one of them. I was constantly on eggshells waiting for someone to email me about a mistake I made. Its a very uneasy feeling. Management also does not like when you bring these things to their attention. Instead of standing behind their employee they pacify these attorneys and let them take the heat on things. HR does not listen. One time when I got in trouble for something that was a management issue, I was told to be quiet and not turn the call into an argument, even though I had proof and documentation that completely contradicted what I got in trouble for. The way HR treated me after my mother had passed away was appalling. Telling someone before they have even put their loved one to rest, that upon their return they'd be getting a bad review and what was my reaction to that. And then proceed to tell me that having an attorney want a different biller (the same one who thinks everyone is an idiot) was a good indicator and she didn't know why I'd be surprised. This place is really just not good for people who speak up when there's an issue and who want to keep their sanity. I wished I would have left after my first meltdown. The stuff you have to go through is definitely not worth the pay or your mental health. I got someone hired there after me and after they'd been there barely a year they left for the same reasons. People that are still there are unhappy...I wished it were different because like I mentioned most of the people were great. The experience was not. Since I'd been there in about 2 years over 30 people from my department left. That says a lot.
